I recorded a really dark techno track and then encountered silence on the recording. I didn’t plug the master outs in. I seem to do this about once a month and I always feel like a gift. That track was just for me.

We must enter the darkness to find the light. We don’t always need to bring it back with us just to show we’ve been there. I was about to write a post about how dark techno isn’t about darkness. That there’s so much sublime beauty and light there. And this is very true. There is also sublimity in silence.

I recorded 11:50 of silence on the master outs that weren’t plugged into anything. They witnessed everything I had to give silently. When I asked them for their feedback, they waited patiently and fed my silence back to me. Everything I had to say was contained in that silence. A master class in active listening.
